Shannon Gilman, Milton-Freewater, passed away Jan. 24, 2011, at her home at the age of 40 years. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at the Blue Mountain Seventh-day Adventist Church in Athena, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Matthew Lombard officiating. Concluding services and interment will be in the Athena Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary Cancer Center (Special Needs) through the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, OR 97862.

Shannon was born April 5, 1970, in Walla Walla the daughter of Carl and Rita Ely Sandefur. She grew up in Milton-Freewater where she attended school. She moved with her family to Athena where she continued her schooling. In April 1987 she married Trevor Gilman in Milton-Freewater. The couple lived in Warden, Wash., where she started raising her family. They moved to Walla Walla, living there for 4 years. They then moved to Milton-Freewater where Shannon worked for Sykes, Horizon Project and then for Addus Healthcare in Walla Walla until ill health forced her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her family, the beach, camping and playing Bingo.

She is survived by her husband, Trevor Gilman, Sr. at the home; a son, Trevor Gilman, Jr., of Milton-Freewater; a daughter and son-in-law, Shamera and James Ferrier of Milton-Freewater; her mother and step-father, Rita and Jim James of Irrigon; two grandmothers, Doris James of Milton-Freewater, Wanda Ely of Wichita Falls, Texas; a brother, Jonathan Sandefur of Spokane; 10 sisters, Traci Hastings of Seattle, Carrie House of Goldendale, Wash., Jessie Prock of The Dalles, Ore., Samantha Messer of Dallas, Ore., Lisa Hook of Clarksville, Tenn., Mona Nordman of White Salmon, Wash., Echo Sandfur of Coeur d' Alene, Ida., Camille Ogilvie of Milton-Freewater, Tana James of Hermiston, Venessa Torres of Umatilla; a grandson, Heith Gilman, Jr. of Milton-Freewater; two grandsons, Tristan Gilman and Brett Ferrier; a granddaughter, Liyah Baker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
