Hugh Marion Coy
August 7, 1923 - June 25, 2011
Walla Walla resident, Hugh Marion Coy, 87, died June 25, 2011, at
Wheatland Village where he was residing.
Hugh was born August 7, 1923, in Ames, Iowa, to Phil
and Georgia Hunt Coy. He graduated from Union College
in Lincoln, Nebraska, then served in the US Army as a
medic in the Pacific Theater during WWII. On May 26,
1946, he and Madeleine Douma married in Lincoln. He and
his wife served as missionaries in Africa from 1951 to 1957.
He spent the remainder of his career as a business manager
for Seventh-day Adventist academies and at Union College.
Following his retirement in 1985, they moved to the Walla
Walla area. He was a member of the Walla Walla City
Seventh-day Adventist Church. His wife passed away on
October 19, 2009.
Hugh is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law:
Joellen and Tom Lee of Angwin, California and Linda and
Jerry Wernick of Polebridge, Montana; two sisters: Pat
Swinsen and Phyllis Coy both of Avon Park, Florida; four
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Sunday,
July 17, 2011, in the Chapel of Wheatland Village, 1500
Catherine Street, Walla Walla, Washington. The family
suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may
be made to Gospel Outreach or Walla Walla Community
Hospice through Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551
