WALLA WALLA - The Walla Walla Bears earned a berth in the championship game of the annual Walla Walla Sweet Invitational baseball tournament after posting a 3-2 win over Toyota Baseball Saturday night at Borleske Stadium.

Walla Walla will oppose Pride Baseball today at 2 p.m. on Walla Walla Community College's Tausick Way field for the tournament title.

Earlier on Saturday, the Bears improved to 4-0 in tournament play with a 6-5 triumph over the Hanford Flames at WWCC.

On Friday, the Bears posted victories over the Capital Junior Senators, 16-1, and Reality Sports, 4-2.

Bears 3, Toyota Baseball 2

Conner Holbrook collected four hits and Jake Campeau pitched seven innings of seven-hit ball to lead Walla Walla to its semifinal triumph.

The Bears trailed 2-0 in the fifth inning and had managed just three hits off Toyota starting pitcher Ryan Garrett in the first four frames.

But Walla Walla evened the score with a pair of runs in inning five on the strength of four hits. Aaron Flippo brought in the first run with a double to left field and Neal Schuck delivered the equalizer with an infield grounder.

The Bears claimed the victory in their final at-bat. Mike Pontarolo led off the seventh inning with a bunt single and was sacrificed to second by Schuck.

Holbrook lined a single to left and Pontarolo scored when the ball shot past Toyota's left fielder.

"Our guys played 100 percent the whole way," Walla Walla manager Brian Kitamura said. "Jake was outstanding on the mound. Our guys are starting to show they have a little game in them."

Bears 6, Hanford 5

Walla Walla scored all of its runs in the first three innings to support a complete-game pitching effort by left-hander Drew Christina.

The Bears picked up three runs in the first inning. Ryan James smoked a two-RBI double to left and Matt Wujek capped the rally with a run-scoring single to right.

One inning later, Schuck lifted a sacrifice fly and James dropped an RBI single into left to give Walla Walla a 5-0 lead.

The Flames got back in the game with three unearned runs in the third inning before Schuck produced another sacrifice fly in the home half of the stanza.

Hanford scored twice in the sixth inning, but would get no closer.

"It was a good effort by our guys," Kitamura said. "Drew gave us exactly what we needed."

Bears 16, Senators 1

Walla Walla collected 13 hits in the game that was halted in the bottom of the fourth inning due to the 15-run mercy rule.

The Bears scored seven times in the first inning. Campeau started things off with a two-run double while Brett Christina, Tyler Stevenson and Nick Poolman added an RBI single apiece.

Flippo started a three-run rally in the third with a run-scoring double.

Walla Walla ended the game with six runs in the fourth inning. Poolman hit an RBI double, Pontarolo socked a two-RBI two-bagger, Jake Jimenez had a single for a run, Campeau drove another runner home with a double, and Christina ended the game with a long, RBI single to right.

"Our guys did a good job of staying composed at the plate," Kitamura said.

Campeau, Poolman, Flippo, Jimenez and Christina had two hits apiece for the Bears. Vic Mata threw a three-hitter.

Bears 4, Reality Sports 2

Campeau and Flippo had two hits each in Walla Walla's first game on Friday.

James threw six innings for the victory and Matt Watson, despite allowing two batters to reach base in the seventh, earned the save.

"Overall, we played really well," Kitamura said. "Ryan threw great and stayed down in the zone. Offensively, we're getting better."
