WALLA WALLA -- A Walla Walla man found dead next to Garrison Creek died of a ruptured spleen, Walla Walla County Coroner Richard Greenwood said today.

Procoro Flores of North 11th Avenue died on the bank of the creek Saturday, near the batting cages at Garrison Middle School, Greenwood said. The body was discovered just before 3 p.m. by a group of people who then entered a nearby Rosita's Restaurant to call the Walla Walla Police Department.

Detectives spent hours investigating the scene. A forensic pathologist flew in Sunday to perform an autopsy, the coroner said. It was determined Flores, 45, showed no signs of defensive or offensive wounds and had been dead about three hours when we was found.

The man appears to have fallen while working in his yard and not realized his injury, Greenwood said. He apparently walked away from his house and dropped dead where he was found.

"He had no ID whatsoever and maybe a dollar in change," the coroner said.

However, an article about the death in Sunday's Union-Bulletin "spurred a phone call that got us pointed to a family that was missing a husband," he added.

Police are continuing the investigation, officials said today.
