Helen Louise Blaylock of Eugene, Ore., died on June 25, 2011 of cancer. She was born July 17, 1943, in Walla Walla to David and Patricia Blaylock. She graduated from WaHi in 1961, and earned dual Bachelors' degrees in P.E. and English and a Master's degree from WSU. Helen worked as a high school teacher in Busby, Mont., and a mailroom manager at Whitman College. She also worked for the Flaherty Beacon Hill Newspaper in Seattle before moving to Eugene in 1978 to work at Lane Community College. She worked at word processing for the college and a law firm, then as an administrative assistant at Oregon Research Institute.
Helen was passionate about literature, animals, nature, spirituality and people. She love kayaking, hiking and writing short stories. Despite many years of health challenges, her positive attitude, love of humor and fierce independence inspired all who knew her.
Survivors include a cousin and her family, Rose, Scott, Jared, and Savannah Brous of Vancouver, Wash. She is also survived by many dear friends in and around Eugene, Washington and Idaho.
Remembrances can be made to the Humane Society of America. The WaHi class of 1961 will celebrate her life during the 50th reunion this September.
