New cupcake shop opens on First Avenue

A new cake and cupcake shop is the frosting on First Avenue.

"Frosted -- The Cupcake Shop" was slated for opening today in downtown Walla Walla, 7 S. First Ave., in the former Community Bank's office space.

According to details on Facebook, the culinary team behind the operation is cake designer Kim Wheeler and Manager Chelsea Wheeler.

Kim Wheeler has developed a following for her custom-order cakes through her business Cakes by Kim.

Treats for any and all occasions are the focus of the new business. An array of flavors were on the menu for today's opening. One anticipated to be a favorite: red velvet with cream cheese frosting.

The latest scoop on Walla Walla's new frozen yogurt shop: An opening this weekend.

Blue Palm Frozen Yogurt will open its doors at 1417 B Plaza Way on Sunday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.

The shop is owned by Paula Elsom and Heather Threadgill and is located next to Great Clips. You'll know it by the giant metal palm tree at the front of the building.

The self-serve shop will feature YoCream frozen yogurt with about 30 different toppings. Guests choose their flavors and toppings and pay based on weight. Initial flavors will include alpine vanilla, cable car chocolate, peanut butter, island banana, mango tango sorbet, raspberry, white chocolate macadamia, euro tart and more. A tour of the Walla Walla Curves fitness facility and a workout with members of the Walla Walla Sweets baseball team could make for a homerun of an open house.

Local Curves owner Lora Edelman is planning an open house at the Eastgate operation, 2200 Melrose St. The event runs 10 a.m.-noon. Edelman is sponsoring a workout with the Sweets during the celebration. Several members of the ball team will be there to meet visitors and help introduce them to Curves.

The health center is one of nearly 10,000 such facilities across the globe. Designed for women, the franchise offers fitness and nutrition services. To learn more, call 522-7888.
