UPDATED at 2:46 p.m.:

COLLEGE PLACE — Two people were arrested Thursday after allegedly parking a stolen truck next to the city Police Department.

College Place police Chief Dennis Lepiane said the incident began about 5:20 a.m. when police received a broadcast that a pickup stolen in Umatilla County might be headed into Washington state. About 30-40 minutes later, a College Place officer saw a vehicle that matched the description of the stolen vehicle parked across the street from City Hall, where the police department is housed.

After officers confirmed it was the wanted vehicle, they confronted two suspects, an 18-year-old woman and a 15-year-old male, who then fled through an apartment complex on College Avenue. The woman, identified as Megan Hines, was caught near 12th Street and College Avenue after she fell down. During the chase, an officer fired a Taser at Hines, but only one prong stuck and it did not stop her, Lepiane said.

A witness then reported the location of the teenage male, who was subsequently spotted by a Walla Walla County Sheriff’s deputy. The officer chased the youth behind a building on Southwest Eighth Street and also fired a Taser at the suspect, but it too was unsuccessful at stopping the teen, who surrendered when he ran around a corner of the building and saw other officers coming at him.

Hines was taken to Walla Walla County Jail and the 15-year old was place in juvenile detention. Information is expected to be filed with the county Prosecuting Attorney’s office for investigation of possession of stolen property, obstruction, theft and other charges.
