No cause yet on bake shop fire

MILTON-FREEWATER -- Investigators have yet to determine the cause of this week's fire at the Decadence bake shop.

City Fire Chief Shane Garner said today he's turned the investigation over to the state fire marshal's office because the cause isn't evident.

However, he said the origin isn't suspicious. "It does not look like arson at this time," he said.

Wednesday's blaze began about 10 p.m. near or in the northeast corner of the building at 123 E. Broadway, destroying the office and resulting in smoke damage through about half the structure.

Business owner Marissa Lemay currently leases the building.

Decadence has been closed three months for repairs after a pipe broke, flooding the building. Lemay planned to reopen her shop next Monday, but fire repairs will delay that for an estimated three or four weeks, she said.

Meanwhile, Lemay is preparing catering and special orders in the kitchen at the Milton-Freewater Community Building.
