Ronald H. Leinbach, 95, of Walla Walla died at Walla Walla General Hospital on July 23, 2011. Mr. Leinbach was born May 11, 1916, in Walla Walla to James and Katie Hall Leinbach. He attended grade
school in Umapine and graduated in 1936 from Umapine High School, where he excelled in sports. He attended Northwest Technical Institute in Portland. He worked for the Department of Interior surveying in different parts of Oregon (Prineville, Ontario, Imnaha
country, Sumpter and Granite).
He married Maybelle Burlingame in 1938, in Dayton. They had two children, Ron Jr. and Dianne Wales. He managed Duff Creamery for three years in Touchet before starting his farming career in Gardena, where he farmed for over 50 years before moving to Walla Walla in 1995.
He worked in the Agriculture Department for Birds Eye for 18 years, retiring in 1978 when DK purchased it and worked for DK and then Stokely after it bought DKt. He drove for Woodpecker Trucking, delivering trucks until he was 92 years old. He enjoyed Tommy's Dutch Lunch with his coffee friends. He enjoyed all kinds of sports and played on the Touchet town baseball team for several years.
When his children where in school he was active in all school and sporting events as well as 4-H. He served on the Umapine School Board for 20 years. He loved to play golf. Ronald started playing golf at age 72 and got his hole-in-one at age 87. He and his wife bowled on a mixed doubles league for 20 years. Ronald was an avid rodeo fan and enjoyed going to the finals in Las Vegas, as well as going to Mexico and Hawaii several times. He enjoyed their trips in the winter to Yuma, Ariz., and on to Sahuarita, Ariz., to visit family and also trips to Pennsylvania to visit family. They also enjoyed several cruises.
He was a member of the College Place Presbyterian Church, life member of the BPOE #287 and life member of the Eagles Lodge #26.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Maybelle, at the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne Ralph Wales of Walla Walla; a son, Ron Jr. of Touchet; two sisters, Ruby Sharp of Walla Walla and Ruth Kitzmiller of Lake Oswego, Ore.; four grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Katie; and two brothers, Ted and Elwood Leinbach.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home with the Rev. Skip Pritchard officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the
American Heart Association, College Place Presbyterian Church Wasser House or charity of choice through the funeral home.
