Lois E. Saranto of Walla Walla passed away July 23, 2011, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla at the age of 89 years. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater with Pastor John Murphy officiating. Interment will follow at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 29, 2011, from 1-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in memory of Lois Saranto to the Faith Line Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.

Lois Ellen Saranto was born on Sept. 18, 1921, the daughter of Leo P. and Elizabeth E. (Powell) Young in Pasco. Her family moved numerous times during her early years before she settled in Walla Walla. On July 5, 1957, she married Angelo Saranto in Lewiston, Ida. Lois worked as a cook's helper and later as a cook for School District #140 from 1967 until her retirement in 1990. She later volunteered cooking for the Discovery Center Christian School where she enjoyed her time with the children. Lois was very devoted in her faith and was a member of the Faith Line Baptist Church for many years. Lois enjoyed the mountains, camping, picnics, shopping, her church family and most of all enjoyed spending time with her family including her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She wanted her family to remember her as always being there in time of need. Her husband Angelo preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 1985.

Survivors include her children, Greg Saranto and Gayle Nixon both of Walla Walla; sisters, Claudia Fowler and Lee Mc Fall both of Walla Walla, Doris Merle Young of Medford, Ore.; and a brother, Clayton Young of Gladstone, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and other relatives and friends. Her parents; son, Mike Saranto; brother, Clair Young; and sister Frances Smith all preceded her in death.
