Pomeroy School District Board members are Paul Ruark, Lori Slaybaugh, Steve Carlson, Bart Gingerich and Ed Sullivan. With all present Thursday the board:

  • BUDGET: Following a public hearing, passed resolution adopting the 2011-2012 budget. The budget is based on full time equivalent enrollment of 290.5 students. With a beginning fund balance of $750,000 and an ending fund balance of $254,857, the budget includes $3,887,095 in revenue, and $4,382,248 in expenditures. Budget passed unanimously.

  • MODERNIZATION: Bids for the Junior-Senior High Modernization project are due Aug. 2, with board meeting Aug. 9 to announce selection of a general contractor. Learned portable classrooms are installed, with water service, and electricity ready to be hooked up. Phone lines will be installed, because fire alarms use the phone lines.

  • STAFFING: Following an executive session, accepted spring coaches intents. There are openings in softball coach and assistant coach positions. Assistant golf coach and assistant track coach positions will be eliminated due to small numbers of participants. Unanimous.

  • POLICIES: Held second reading on policies related to director districts and surplusing, discarding, disposal of equipment and or materials. Held first reading of policy related to project supervision.

  • FUEL BID: Awarded bid for fuel oil for the Van Vogt Shop to Coleman Oil, who was the only bidder. Unanimous.

  • CASH FLOW: Learned beginning cash balance in Sept. 2010 was $706,960. At the end of July 2011 it was $811,000 and is projected to be $802,000 at the end of August.

  • REPORTS: Learned Superintendent Kim Spacek is meeting with representatives of Walla Walla Community College in Clarkston to discuss college English. Spacek said he is still working to resolve the baseball field bleachers issue, and he has appointed a committee to work on the 2012 graduation ceremony because the gym won't be available due to construction.

  • TESTS: Learned students met standards in all areas except middle school reading. High school math scores weren't available.

  • ATHLETICS: Learned about 75 percent of boys and 71 percent of girls participate in at least one sport.


  • MEETING DATES: Set August board meeting dates for Aug. 9 and Aug. 30. Both meetings begin at 7 p.m.
