Milton-Freewater resident Penny Rodighiero passed away May 31, 2011, following a brief illness. At Penny's request, no services will be held. Penny was born to Elmer and Gail Menges on Oct. 18, 1940, in St Vincent's Hospital in Portland. On May 17, 1961, Penny married Vern Rodighiero. During her spouse's military tours of duty, she learned to groom dogs and cats and enjoyed crafts, painting, leather work, sewing and was the head coordinator for Family Services at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. She volunteered time and was hired as help for the veterinary offices while in Adana, Turkey. She enjoyed cake decorating and home decorating. Upon Vern's retirement from the military in 1978, they moved to Milton-Freewater, where Penny established herself in the local community by opening Penrod Kennels, which is well known in the area. While building her business in the early years, Penny could be seen at competitive dog shows, showing many breeds of dogs. She was involved for many years in supplying housing for many of the Guide Dogs for the Blind. She is an active member of the Kiwanis Club, enjoyed playing Bunco and worked on genealogy thru GenWeb. In recent years, she has enjoyed quilting for her family.
She is preceded in death by her father, Elmer William Menges; and mother, Gail Kane Wilson (Menges.) She is survived by her husband, Vern Rodighiero; sons, Mike Rodighiero, Mark Rodighiero, Scott Rodighiero, Jay Rodighiero; and daughter, Gay Dodd (Rodighiero); nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
