POMEROY -- A car show, wind festival, fun run, flea market, parade, golf tournament and Sausage and Rifle Shoot are activities in store for those attending the Pioneer Day/Tumbleweed Festival and Washington Wind Festival this weekend.

The event kicks off Friday at noon with the second annual car show at Seventh and Columbia streets. The show is part of the Wine, Stein and Shine event, a regional wine and micro-brew tasting from 5-10 p.m. in the Spinner's Maple Hall at Seventh and Columbia.

Car show registration begins at 10 a.m., with awards presented at 4:30 p.m.

Saturday activities begin at the City Park at 8 a.m. with the Dash for Cash Fun Run. At 10 a.m. the annual Pioneer Day Parade begins on Main Street, followed by the fun run awards presentation.

A new event this year is the Washington Wind Festival held at the Pataha Flour Mill.

Wind energy displays will be set up on the mill's main floor, along with vendors of wind-related items, including home-crafted whirligigs built by Ralph Heinlen.

Wind wagon races are scheduled at 4 p.m. on Hutchens Hill road next to the mill. Glider and sailboat races for kids along with kite flying and Frisbee-style games are planned in the meadow just south of the mill. Dog Frisbee entries are welcome.

School children and adults are encouraged to display art projects relating to the wind, including art utilizing tumbleweeds.

Those with stories to tell are invited to take part in the "long-winded storytelling" and the "old windbag" sessions during the community potluck Sunday.
