Longtime resident Lois Duncan, passed away at Providence St. Mary Medical Center on Tuesday, June 7, 2011. At her request there will be no funeral or memorial service.

Lois was born in Sandpoint, Idaho on Sept. 24, 1925, to Annabelle and William Ault. Her mother later married Frank Krause.

She attended schools in Dayton, graduating in 1943. She later moved to Walla Walla, and was employed by Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Co. for 35 years, retiring from there in 1983. In 1949, she married James H. Merkle, who passed away in 1976. In 1982, she married Ellery Duncan, who passed away in 1990. Lois was a member of Pioneer Methodist Church, Qwest Pioneers and a past member of the Walla Walla Country Club and VFW.

Lois enjoyed playing bridge and golf. She also loved to travel. Her many trips included England, France, Germany, Austria, New Zealand, Australia, Hawaii, Fiji, Raratonga, Tahiti and the Society Islands.

Lois is survived by her sister Ardys Fleming of Seattle, Wash; four nieces Susan Giroux, Diana (Mike) Stricker, Sandra Reichert and Pamela Holman; three nephews Donald Harting, John (Terri) Ault and James (Mary) Fleming; her stepdaughter Debbie (Jerry) Maiuri and stepson Brian Duncan, and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, sister Marion Harting, brother Edwin Ault and close traveling companion Ralston Hurlbutt.
