County to hold hearing Milton-Freewater ambulance district

MILTON-FREEWATER -- Umatilla County commissioners will hold a public hearing at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Umatilla County Courthouse, Room 114, in Pendleton to discuss the formation of a city ambulance district.

The Milton-Freewater Ambulance Service Committee, made up of seven area seven community members, voted in favor of forming the district.

The next step is for county commissioners to approve forming the district; if approved, the proposed ambulance district will go before voters this fall.

The proposed district will help raise funds to pay for Milton-Freewater's threatened ambulance service.

If approved by voters, the new district would increase property taxes by $25 for a home worth $100,000 or 25-cents per $1,000 of assessed value.
