Several candidates for College Place City Council and school district boards in Walla Walla and Burbank will advance unopposed to the November general election based on the results of last week's regular filing period.

A special three-day filing period will be held starting Wednesday to allow candidates to file for positions where no one has filed.

In the College Place City Council races, three incumbents have filed for re-election. Running unopposed will be Bernard Yanke for Position 5, William Jenkins for Position 6 and Larry Dickerson for Position 7.

In the City Council Position 4 race, residents Charles "Chuck" Needles and David Beamer have announced they will run. Incumbent R. Scott Duncan did not file for re-election.

In the Walla Walla School District, all three incumbents have filed for re-election with one race to be contested in November.

Unopposed candidates will be Jim Lehmann in Position 3 and Anne Golden in Position 5. The only contested race will be for the Position 4 seat with incumbent Max E. Carrera running against Veronica Sandau.

The Burbank School District race will have three unopposed races. They are Connie Smith for the Position 2 seat, Malcolm "Sonny" Townsend for the Position 4 seat and Michael W. Scrimsher for the Position 5 seat. All are incumbents.

The Position 1 seat remained open after no one filed for the position.

Other races in Walla Walla, Columbia and Garfield counties were recapped in Sunday's Union-Bulletin.
