WALLA WALLA - The Walla Walla Little League All-City Championships baseball tournament opens Thursday when four teams will contend for a pair of tickets to the quarterfinals.
Dayton of the Touchet Valley League will play Walla Walla Union-Bulletin of the Walla Walla Pacific League and Cummins Athletic Supply of the Walla Walla Valley League will play Waitsburg of the Touchet Valley League. Both games are scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Walla Walla Valley Little League Field in the Eastgate area.
Waitsburg, the top seed out of the Touchet Valley League, enters with a 12-2 record while Dayton finished second at 13-3. U-B finished fourth in the Pacific League with a 10-11 mark and Cummins took fourth in Walla Walla Valley at 11-10.
The winners of those two games will advance to Saturday's four-game round with Tom's Chevron, Dairy Queen and Farmer's Co-Op representing Pacific and Sun Rental, Mr. Ed's and Pepsi representing host Walla Walla Valley.
Tom's Chevron and Sun Rental enter play as the No. 1 seeds after winning their respective league championships.
Tom's Chevron, 21-0, is the defending city champion and the only undefeated team in this year's field. Tom's team has qualified for the tournament for a record 13th straight year, finishing third or better every year and winning the championship six times. This is the third time since 2003 that Tom's Chevron has finished the Pacific League schedule undefeated.
Games Saturday begin at 10 a.m., when Sun Rental (17-4) plays the winner of the Dayton-U-B game. Mr. Ed's (11-10) faces Dairy Queen (16-6) at 12:30 p.m., followed by Pepsi (16-5) vs. Farmer's Co-Op (14-7) at 3 p.m. and Tom's Chevron vs. the Cummins Athletic Supply-Waitsburg winner at 5:30 p.m.
Saturday's winners advance to Monday's semifinals at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday's championship game is slated for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
