More than 50 pirates, mermaids, comic-book characters and a lone -- and lonely -- albatross performed before an appreciative audience of family and community members at Tuesday evening's dress rehearsal of the Walla Walla Community College Summer Children's Theater production of "To Be or Not To Be ... A Pirate?" The school has sponsored the annual summer shows since the 1970s, said director Connie Loomer. Proceeds from ticket sales support the program that has involved thousands of community youngsters since it began. The show opens tonight and runs through Saturday. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the curtain goes up at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $2 for children 12 and under. A 50-50 nightly raffle supports the Nathan Bradford scholarship, which helps eligible children participate in the plays.
