July 30, 1926 - June 21, 2011
Our beloved grandmother and dear friend Mary Martha-Lea passed away
June 21, 2011, following her courageous battle with cancer. Mary, a local artist and homemaker, was born July 30, 1926, to James and Bess (Littlemore) McBane in Fedric, Wis.
On June 10, 1944, Mary married her one and only love, John "Jack" Lea, in Minneapolis, Minn. They had a very loving relationship until his death on April 28, 2002.
Mary had many dear, dear friends. Once you made friends with Mary you were always her friend. She cherished these friendships as her greatest treasures.
She was an amazing portrait artist. Her love of drawing began at an early age. When she was only 15 years old she was given a scholarship to the Walker Art Institute in Minneapolis, Minn. She was always proud to have studied under several art masters. Mary was an admired and accomplished artist and had a wide talent range that included landscapes, still lives and portraits.
Mary's travels gave her the chance to use her talents to capture images in Washington, Montana and Idaho. Hundreds of her portraits, as well as still life's and landscapes, are hanging in homes and businesses throughout the United States and Canada. For 50 years her paintings made a record of that history.
Survivors include a brother, Dale Walter McBane; a sister, Bernice Waters; grandchildren, Eddie Burnham, Dawn Bailey, John David Lea, Janice Russell and Jennifer Johnson; and many great- and great-great-grandchildren, along with their spouses.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Lea; son, John David Lea; daughter, Cheri Roth; and grandson, Michael Roth.
At Mary's request no service will be held. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
Good-bye grandma, you are loved by many.
