COLLEGE PLACE -- Fire damaged a house here early Saturday morning, but no injuries were reported.
Crews were called to the residence at 604 S.E. Kiwanis Drive about 4:30 a.m., according to Fire Marshal John Boose.
The renter, Mike Patterson, was sleeping in a bedroom, but escaped after being awakened by smoke detectors, Boose said.
The blaze was confined to the kitchen area -- where it apparently started -- in addition to the adjoining garage and attic. Damage is estimated at about $15,000, plus light smoke damage.
The cause remains under investigation, but is believed to have stemmed from an electrical problem, Boose said.
