Xplosion '00 fastpitch team second at state tournament

TRI-CITIES - The Walla Walla Xplosion '00, a 10-and-under girls fastpitch team, finished second at the National Softball Association State Tournament here over the weekend.

The Xplosion '00 lost 6-2 in the championship game on Sunday to Snohomish County Express after beating them 11-10 in the previous game.

On Friday, the Xplosion '00 beat the Blaze by a score of 6-0 to open the tournament.

Then, in their first game on Saturday, the Xplosion '00 beat the Northwest Lady Sharks by a score of 12-0. This win forced a showdown between the tournament's only undefeated teams, the Xplosion '00 and the Snohomish County Express. The Express beat the Xplosion '00, 9-4, to send the Xplosion '00 to the loser's bracket.

In the loser's bracket on Sunday, the Xplosion '00 faced the Washington Speed for the right to play the Express in the championship. The Xplosion '00 beat the Speed 10-8 in extra innings to force a rematch with the Express in the championship. Since the Express had not yet lost, the Xplosion '00 had to beat them twice to claim the title.

The Xplosion '00 outlasted the Express in the first game in nine innings by a score of 11-10, but ran out of steam in the second game and conceded the title to the Express, 6-2.

Xplosion '00 players are Kamryn Coleman, Lauren Hoe, Faith Hoe, Teisha Payne, Maddy Thomas, Bow Maiden, Alison Skurski, Courtney Meliah, Paris Orchard, Mikaela Forcum and Meghan Yenney.

Coaches are Andy Coleman, Kaela Hoe, and Corey Davis.

The Xplosion '00, now 27-3 against 10U competition and 29-7-1 overall, next play Friday through Sunday in the ASA state tournament in Lacey, Wash.
