MILTON-FREEWATER -- The Milton-Freewater School District will open a safe room at Ferndale Elementary on Wednesday evening following the accidental death of a student over the weekend.
Christian Lebron Ruiz, a fifth-grader at Ferndale, died Saturday at his home after an accident while using his pellet gun, the district said in a news release. Further information was not available this morning.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Ingel Chapel.
Ferndale Elementary will provide a safe room Wednesday from 5:30-7 p.m. where people can come together and make cards for the family if they wish. Trained grief counselors will be on hand.
