EPHRATA, Wash. - The Walla Walla Bears went undefeated at the High Desert Classic tournament over the weekend, handling the Columbia Basin Riverdogs, 10-1, in Sunday's title game for the championship.
The Bears edged Kitsap, 6-5, on Saturday night to advance to the title game.
"We're finally coming together as a team," Bears coach Brian Kitamura said. "It was a good tournament for the guys. Overall, we played some really solid baseball.
"Our pitchers did a great job on the mound throwing strikes," he said, "and they kept the pitch count down. We're really coming together as a team. I'm proud of how the guys handled themselves in the field. They have a good attitude towards the game. It's real nice to see."
The Bears, now 15-6 overall, head to the Yakima Firecracker Tournament Friday through Sunday.
