WALLA WALLA -- The Walla Walla High School Latino Club will host a concert Friday night with what is considered the state's best student mariachi group.

Mariachi Huenachi, the advanced mariachi music class at Wenatchee High School, will be the featured performers Friday at the concert, which begins at 7 p.m. and will be held in the Wa-Hi auditorium, 800 Abbott Road. Admission is a $3 suggested donation. The event is sponsored by the Wa-Hi Latino Club and Walla Walla Public Schools.

Local students will also sing and dance during the night, in a celebration of Mexican culture, music and dance.

Mariachi Huenachi performed at more than 40 events and festivals last year, including performances at Seahawks, Mariners, Sounders and Chivas de Guadalajara games.

Mariachi music originated in the state of Jalisco, and typically includes violin, guitar, trumpet, as well as instruments unique to the region such as guitarron and vihuela.
