Nixyaawii girls advance to class 1A semifinals

BAKER CITY, Ore. - Nixyaawii's girls advanced to the Oregon Class 1A semifinals with a 55-49 victory over Mohawk here Thursday evening.

Kanisha Perry hit 7-of-13 field goals to lead the Golden Eagles with 15 points, with Makayla McKay putting up 12, Jessica Simpson 11 and Kristi Miller 10 in a balanced Nixyaawii offense.

The Golden Eagles eked out a 22-20 halftime lead, increased that to 39-34 headed into the final quarter, and held the largest lead of the game at nine points with seven seconds remaining.

Mohawks' Emily Gonzalez hit 5-of-9 3-pointers in the Indians' loss.

The victory pits Nixyaawii against Perrydale, a 24-20 victor over Imbler Thursday night, at 6:30 p.m. today at Baker High School. The winner of that game faces the winner of the Crane-Hosanna Christian game for the state title at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
