Port makes changes to personnel policies

WALLA WALLA -- The Port of Walla Walla is making changes to its personnel policies through updates to the economic development agency's employee manual.

The roughly monthlong process of revising kicks off this week with the distribution of a draft personnel policy to staff, Port commissioners and legal counsel.

Commissioners will get their copy of the draft manual during the Port's 6 p.m. meeting Thursday at the Port office, 310 A. St.

Port Commissioner Paul Schneidmiller said updating the manual was one of the goals identified by commissioners during their annual budget retreat. He said the Port's personnel policy "sorely needed updating." He did not specify what parts of the manual need more work. He did say the new document could help outline how better to address internal operations and personnel matters.

A staff meeting to garner input on the policy is expected as part of the planning process, as well as input from commissioners and attorneys. A final draft is expected to be considered for adoption at the Port's April 14 meeting.
