Longtime College Place resident Robert R. "Bob" Lewis, 98, died March 11, 2011, at Park Manor Rehabilitation Center, 1710 Plaza Way, Walla Walla. A memorial service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at
Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, WA 99362. Chaplain Walt Meske will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Bob Lewis for a nursing scholarship through
the funeral home. A private inurnment will be at a later date in Forest Grove, Ore.
Robert was born June 12, 1912, in Minatare, Neb., to Robert I. and Mernie (Lewis) Lewis. He attended schools in Nebraska until he was 7, then moved to Western Oregon and lived there until he was 17. He moved back to Nebraska and then returned to Walla Walla in 1945. On Aug. 5, 1944, he married Hazel Irene Wahl in Vancouver. He was a bookkeeper for Dairy Gold for a couple years and then worked in construction until 1960, when he and his wife opened Lewis Photography Studio. He retired from the studio in 1997. Bob supported the early growth of Little League through his photography. He was also active for many years working on their property caring for the grapes and orchards. Bob enjoyed old cars and restoring them.
He is survived by two daughters, Elsie Ann Sharpe, of Vale, N.C., Lydia Irene and Paul Christian of Mitchell, Neb.; two sons, Ray H. Lewis of Eugene, Ore., Richard D. Lewis of Tustin, Calif.; one sister,
Opal Lewis of Modesto, Calif.; one brother, Jack Lewis of Renton, Wash.; five grandchildren, Mitchel Lewis of Seattle, Kristin Lewis of Sherman Oaks, Calif., Lynsey and Meagan Lewis of Anaheim, Calif., Cheyenne Lewis of Laramie, Wyo.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife on March 26, 2006; and four sisters.
