South Fork to dish Japanese cuisine for disaster relief


South Fork Grill is cooking up fundraising plans for earthquake and tsunami relief.

Chef Nimal Amarasinghe will prepare a Japanese-style dish, which will be available all day Sunday at the Southgate restaurant. Ten percent of the proceeds from the special dish will be donated by South Fork Grill owners Chris and Jodi Worden to Mercy Corps, a Portland-based organization working to provide emergency assistance to earthquake survivors in Japan in partnership with Peace Winds.

Lunch will be served at South Fork, 1129 S. Second Ave., Sunday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. A mid-day menu runs 2-5 p.m.; and dinner is 5-9 p.m. For more information, visit or call 522-4777.

Organizers of Milton-Freewater's annual Cinco de Mayo celebration are planning a slightly smaller fiesta this year.

Due to a shortage of help the event is being scaled back and moved, according to an announcement Monday from the Milton-Freewater Area Chamber of Commerce.

This year's event will include a dinner, queen coronation and entertainment. It will take place April 30. More details will be announced as plans are finalized.

The Stone Hut Bar & Grill will host a bellinis-for-ballerinas fundraiser Wednesday.

Guest bartenders will be pouring at the Plaza Way business and featuring refreshing bellinis as the featured drink.

Sales of bellinis -- a combination of sparkling wine and peach puree and popular in Italy -- will support ballerinas from The Dance Center who will be performing in Italy this summer. Proceeds will be donated to the Dance Grand Prix Italia tour, according to an announcement.

Aimee Stevenson has joined Locati Cellars as the winery's new sales and marketing director and tasting room manager.

Stevenson oversees operations at the winery's tasting room in Suite 102 at the Marcus Whitman Hotel & Conference Center, 6 W. Rose St., where Locati Cellars features its handcrafted Italian varietals.
