Biology professor honored with 'Women of Discovery' award

WALLA WALLA -- Kate Jackson, an assistant professor of biology at Whitman College, has been selected to receive a 2011 "Women of Discovery" award, presented by WINGS WorldQuest, an organization "dedicated to recognizing and supporting visionary women advancing scientific inquiry and environmental conservation," according to its website.

The award comes with a $10,000 research grant and will be presented at a ceremony in April in New York.

Jackson is one of four recipients this year. Awards are presented in various categories -- the 2011 categories are Courage (Jackson's), Sea, Humanity and Earth.
