Cheryl C. Shannon passed away March 10, 2011, at her home in Walla Walla.
Cheryl was born March 2, 1945, in Billings, Mont., to Ewald and Clara Koenig Schock. She received her elementary schooling in Billings and graduated from Montana State University with her degree in education.
She began teaching in Great Falls. She married Kenneth Thompson on Jan. 19, 1969, and they resided in various locations due to her husband's employment. They had two sons, Travis and Beau Thompson. They later divorced.
Cheryl lived in the Denver area for several years and while residing there, she became a human resource specialist with City Group.
In 2000, Cheryl renewed a friendship with her high school classmate, Dr. Jack Shannon. They were married Nov. 24, 2001, in Billings. They have resided in Walla Walla since that time.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Dr. Jack Shannon at the home; two sons, Travis Thompson of Denver, and Beau and wife Kory Thompson of Pasadena, Calif.; one sister, Sharon (Bud) Pilling of Seeley Lake,
Mont.; two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Kistner of La Crosse, Wis., and Barbara Dykes of Mason Neck, Va; one step-son, Michael (Ampara) Shannon of Las Vegas, Nev.; one step-daughter, Heather Curtis of
Kalispell, Mont.; three step-grandchildren, Ava and Ella Shannon of Las Vegas, Nev., and Wyatt Curtis of Kalispell, Mont.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 19, 2011, at
11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark Koonz officiating. There will be a private family interment. Memorial contributions may be made to the Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
