COLLEGE PLACE - The monthly general meeting of the National Alliance on Mental Illness will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at SonBridge Community Center, 1200 S.E. 12th St. The session will start with a potluck at 6:30 p.m.

Prior to the meeting, Anne Strode and Sandra Bienvides-Vaello from Washington State University will conduct a videotaped focus group of consumers with mental illness and substance abuse. Individuals with mental illness and substance abuse who would like to participate in the 5 p.m. session are asked to call 509-529-5160 for more information.

During the general meeting, Strode and Bienvides-Vaello will explain the purpose of their research, the services needed by those with mental illness and substance abuse, and the financial requirements to continue those services.

The two researchers are using a grant to work on a statewide project regarding the sales tax option for counties in Eastern Washington. Daryl Daugs, director of the Department of Human Services, will also be a guest speaker. He will answer questions about the proposal and about specific service needs in the Walla Walla area.
