Helix, Weston-McEwen tracksters compete

The TigerScots and Grizzlies were at the Umatilla Icebreaker on Saturday.

UMATILLA - Helix and Weston-McEwen competed in the Umatilla IceBreaker track and field meet Friday, and both schools sent successful athletes home.

The TigerScots boys team placed 12th with six placers and 11 points. The W-M girls team posted an eighth-place finish with 32 points.

W-M's Jacob Christopher led the boys with a third and fifth place finish. He was third in the 3000 meter in 10:17.86 and fifth in the 1500 meter in 4:41.36.

Wes Surber placed eighth in the 3000 in 11:49.61 and 13th in the 800 in 2:38.11.

James Baker led the W-M field team in the shot put, finishing at 10th place in 34 fee-00 inches. Clayton Gaines was 14th at 31-10.00, Michael Guerrero was 21st at 30-6.00 and Derreck Red Bird was 34th at 25-11.00.

Betsy West led the TigerScots girls, placing eighth in the 100 in 14.51.

Makayla Carlin led the TigerScots field team, placing third in the high jump at 4-06.00 and fourth in the triple jump at 29-04.5.

Jaymie Zimmerman placed sixth in discus at 81-00 and 11th in the shotput at 26-3.

The 4x100 relay team of Elizabeth Huskey, Kyra Fairchild, Joesphine Penney and West finished fifth in 59.83 and the 4x400 team finished fourth. That team consisted of West, Fairchild, Huskey and Hinchliff.

Makayla Christopher also placed ninth in the discus at 72-05.5 and fifth in the javelin at 98-01.

Helix's boys were 14th and the girls were 15th at the event. The boys had six points and the girls 5.5.

Dusty Bennett had a third-place finish in the high jump at 5-06. He also placed 20th in the 100 (12.96) and 10th in the triple jump (34-01).

Derek Clark was 17th in the shot put at 31-5.50.

Elizabeth Schatzlein won fifth in the long jump (13-05) and finished 18th in the 100 in 15.51.

Anna Goodwin was ninth in the 800 in 2:56.47 and 26th in the discus in 50-01.

McKayla Nitz was seventh in the discus (78-09.5) and 15th in the 1500 meters in 7:04.47. She was 12th in the shot in 26-02.
