MOSES LAKE - Matt Watson got the Wa-Hi baseball season off on the right foot here Friday in non-conference baseball action.
Watson blasted a three-run home run and drove in five runs to lead the Blue Devils to an 11-3 win over Moses Lake.
The Chiefs threw Jake Jimenez's sac bunt away in the second inning to get the Blue Devils on the board. Michael Pontarolo culminated the Wa-Hi three-run second with an RBI triple and the Blue Devils grabbed a 3-0 lead and didn't look back.
Watson hit his homer in the four-run Blue Devil sixth to ice the win and then closed out the game on the mound by striking out the side in the Chiefs' seventh.
"He (Watson) had quite a day," Wa-Hi coach Keith Gradwohl said. "Five RBIs, two stolen bases, and closed in the seventh with three strikeouts."
Mitch Yoda collected three hits to lead Moses Lake.
Jake Thomason blasted a long solo home run for the Blue Devils in the fourth. Kevin Toon and Watson collected two hits as Wa-Hi pounded out nine hits.
"Thomason hit a hanging curve ball," Gradwohl added. "It was poked. He hit it a long way."
On the mound, Drew Christina, Toon, and Watson combined to limit the Chiefs to seven hits while recording 10 strikeouts.
"It was an impressive day for us," Gradwohl said. "We had two doubles, two triples, two home runs, and struck out 10 and didn't walk anyone. We're very pleased for the first game."
Wa-Hi travels to Hermiston Tuesday to play Reynolds High School from Troutdale and then will take on Milwaukie High School.
The Blue Devils host Southridge in their home opener at 2 p.m. Friday.
