Someone's In The Kitchen is whipping up plans for its new casual eatery on Main Street.

The cooking school/urban eatery at 132 W. Rose St. has announced a few details about its new operation slated for 13 E. Main St., in the former home of Dean Hoalst Jewelers.

"Green Spoon" will open sometime in April as a spot for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. According to a description on the new business's Facebook page, the style of food will include new American, burgers, sandwiches, vegan and vegetarian.

The weekday schedule will include a late morning opening to kick off lunch service until 2:30 p.m. Green Spoon will close those days for two hours and re-open for dinner service starting at 4:30 p.m. Weekend hours will start at 8 a.m. for brunch. Dinner service will be available Saturdays but not Sundays. The operation will be closed Tuesdays.

Someone's In The Kitchen, co-owned by Executive Chef Gene Soto and Katie Gonzalez, will continue to be available for private dinners, meetings, lunches and other gatherings, as well as cooking classes.

More specific details on the opening of Green Spoon are expected to be announced as plans are finalized. A website -- www.greenspoonw2.com -- is also under construction.

Liberty Tax Service is saluting veterans and active military with free tax preparation services this week.

The service is open to those who served in the armed forces or currently do, as well as their families, and have never used Liberty Tax before. The offer runs through Sunday at both locations, 705 W. Rose St., suite A; or 1637 Isaacs Ave., suite D.

"We want to give something back to honor the brave men and women who valiantly defend us and the American way of life," said Sharon Dodgin, who owns the Walla Walla Liberty Tax offices, in a prepared statement.

Tax advice regarding military service tax is always free, she added.

In addition to helping those in the military, the operation will waive tax preparation fees Wednesday for anyone who contributes $100 to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. The free service that day runs 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Liberty Tax is organizing 500 teams for the upcoming Relay for Life events. The local event takes place June 10.
