Open house set at Ice Harbor Dam

Want to see how hydropower works? Here's your chance.

BURBANK -- People who want to get a look inside a working hydropower dam will have their chance April 2.

An open house event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ice Harbor Dam will allow visitors to take self-guided tours of the dam's powerhouse, navigation lock, fish-viewing room, removable spillway weir and a new wildlife display.

Park rangers and operations staff will be present to give detailed information at each location. Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet Bobber, the water safety dog.

Free parking will be available and shuttles will be available to assist people with disabilities to the top of the dam. All visitors 18 years and older will need photo identification to enter the dam.

Visitors will need to wear closed-toe, sturdy shoes while touring the structure and cannot bring purses, bags, cameras, cellphones, briefcases and similar items into secure areas. These items cannot be checked in with the security guards and should be left in visitors' vehicles.

Information is available at (509) 547-2048.
