Ruth "Betty" McCrea
August 11, 1919 - March 20, 2011

College Place, Washington resident, Ruth "Betty" Elizabeth McCrea, 91,
died March 20, 2011. Family and friends may pay their respects from
3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Mountain View-Colonial
DeWitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, Washington. The memorial
service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 25, 2011, at the funeral home followed by a
reception. Memorial contributions may be made to Walla
Walla Community Hospice through the funeral home.

Mrs. McCrea was born in Sidney, Montana on August 11,
1919, to Cyrus Elroy and Ruth Link Bock. She graduated in
1937 from Sidney High School. Following graduation from
high school, she attended the University of Dubuque in
Dubuque, Iowa and graduated in 1941 with a Bachelor of
Science in Home Economics.

The family moved to College Place, Washington in 1977 from
Chester, Montana, where her husband, Richard B. McCrea,
was the Principal of Davis Elementary. She taught school in
Chewelah, Washington for several years and then became a
full time homemaker.

Betty was a gourmet cook and greatly enjoyed everything
to do with fine food. She loved to camp and picnic
in the mountains. She prided herself in her appearance
and always wore lovely clothes. Other interests included
Montana History, flowers, berry-picking, canning and sewing.
Organizations to which she belonged included Order of
the Eastern Star and Royal Neighbors. She greatly enjoyed
attending a coffee group in Walla Walla where they would
meet several times a week with friends to tell stories and
recite a good joke. She had a wonderful sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard B.

Survivors include two daughters: Margaret McCrea
of Rawlins, Wyoming and Wendy McCrea of College Place,
Washington; son, Richard C. McCrea of Boise, Idaho; five
grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
