TOLLGATE -- Names have released of those involved in Tuesday night's shooting of an armed man by law enforcement in rural Umatilla County.
The shooting occurred about 7:28 p.m. when Oregon State Police Trooper Ryan Sharp and Umatilla County sheriff's Deputy Morgan Dunlap encountered the man armed with a rifle while they were investigating and searching for a driver involved in an earlier traffic crash near here.
The man, identified as Michael T. Summers, 52, was shot three times after he failed to drop the weapon aimed at the officers, according to a news release. He is being treated in the intensive care unit at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland.
Summers reportedly had a federal parole violation warrant for his arrest related to a previous weapons offense.
Both officers remain on paid department leave pending the investigation.
A multiagency investigation into the shooting is continuing.
