DAYTON - Shelby Smith was 3-for-3 at the plate, including a solo home run, and Kayla Turner went the distance in the circle as Dayton defeated Wa-Hi's junior varsity squad, 5-3, here Thursday.

"Shelby had a fantastic day at the plate," Dayton assistant coach Desirae Robbins said. "The girls really stepped up and got hits when we needed hits. There were a couple of mental lapses, but that will come with time."

Turner had three strikeouts and two walks while giving up six Blue Devil hits.

Dayton, now 3-0 on the season, travels to Pomeroy for a non-league game at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
