MILTON-FREEWATER -- A high-speed chase through Walla Walla and Umatilla counties left deputies questioning several occupants of a nearby residence, as they tried to determine who was their suspect.

The chase started at 11:06 p.m. on Thursday, when a Walla Walla County sheriff's deputy observed a speeding 1997 Ford Escort. The pursuit continued down Old Milton Highway, with speeds up to 80 mph.

At one point the chase was called off when the car drove through a more populated area on the north end of town; then the vehicle was seen spinning out onto County Road, and the chase was re-initiated.

The driver eventually ditched the vehicle at a field near 53216 Winesap Road, where two people were seen running toward the house, according to a sheriff's report.

Milton-Freewater police arrived for backup, and what followed was a lengthy investigation as all the six occupants in the house denied being either of the two suspects seen running from the car.

Two of the six occupants at the residence were later implicated as possible suspects, but have yet to be arrested.

Taken into custody at the residence were Tamara Auxier, 41, and Curtis Auxier, 35, on felony warrants not connected with the chase.
