Louis A. Silva, 82, of Crow, Ore., passed away March 17, 2011, at his home surrounded by family, of cancer-related illness.
On July 1, 1949, while both were serving in the military, Louis married May L. Slife, in Helena, Mont. May passed away July 20, 1996, after 47 years together.
After military service, he joined the Walla Walla Police Department in 1953. He held among others, the positions of motorcycle police officer, juvenile officer and detective, lieutenant grade. He attended the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va., in 1975 and retired in 1979. He was a former president and a long standing member of the Washington State Law Enforcement Association.
After May's death in 1996, Louis married Betty J. Hillman, of Crow, Ore. He was a devoted member of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Veneta, Ore.
Louis is survived by his mother, Mary J. Wettengel of Yakima; son, Michael L. Silva of Port Angeles, Wash.; daughter, Roberta (Robin) L. Glaspell of Eugene; stepson, Dennis Hillman of Veneta; sisters, Darlene Odegard of Yakima and Delores Speer of Kennewick; stepsisters, Debra Bishop of Pomeroy, and Gale Harris of Sun City West, Ariz.; brother, Ernest H. Silva of Milton-Freewater; and 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held Monday, March 28, at 1 p.m. at the Blue Mountain Memorial gardens, 300 S.E. Myra Road, College Place., where Lou's remains will be laid to rest beside his first wife, May.
