MILTON-FREEWATER - Mac-Hi got a little revenge on Yamhill-Carlton's softball team here Thursday, downing the Tigers 8-3 a year after Yamhill-Carlton defeated the Pioneers twice.
"It was a great game for us," Mac-Hi coach Nicole Christianson said. "We had a lot of team defense, and got key clutch hits by Belan (Betancourt) and Shawney (Garcia).
"Overall, it was a great effort for us over a team that could be ranked in the top 10 in the state, and beat us at state last season."
The Tigers defeated the Pioneers 6-1 early last season, and won a state tournament game by the same score.
Betancourt had a three-RBI double in the fourth inning, and Garcia had a two-RBI triple in the sixth inning to spark four- and three-run innings.
Mac-Hi, 4-1 on the season, travels to Pilot Rock for a tournament beginning with Pine Eagle and Echo today. The Pioneers play Pilot Rock Saturday afternoon.
