Pioneer softball team mercy-rules foes


PILOT ROCK - Mac-Hi kicked off tournament action here Friday with mercy-rule victories over Echo-Stanfield, 15-2, and Pine Eagle, 11-0.

A Saturday matchup with the host Rockets was called off due to rain.

Kariss Carrillo and Breanna Crewse led the Pioneers' offense against Echo-Stanfield with three hits apiece while Megan Reed added two hits and four runs batted in.

Brittney Hall had three hits in the Pioneers' romp over Pine Eagle.

Cheyenne Kessler had two RBI's in each game for Mac-Hi.

"We had a really good day," Mac-Hi coach Nicole Christian said. "We had some good showings. In the first game, we started mostly sophomores. They did really well for us."

Shawney Garcia gave up three hits in the six-inning opener for Mac-Hi. She struck out five and walked one.

Kaitlin Erm tossed a no-hitter through four innings before yielding a lead-off single in the fifth, which proved to be the final frame of the contest. She fanned five.

The Pioneers, now 6-1, host Pilot Rock for a 4:30 doubleheader on Thursday.
