WALLA WALLA -- Bennington Lake is going up.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operations staff has begun diverting water from Mill Creek into the lake to prepare for the upcoming recreation season.

The lake was partially drained in the fall for maintenance. When filled to recreation level is will be 14 feet higher than it was Friday, said Mill Creek Dam and Bennington Lake Operations Project Manager Rick Beauchesne.

Once the lake reaches the bottom of the boat ramp, Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife staff and program partners from the Tri-State Steelheaders will be able to stock the lake with rainbow trout from the Lyons Ferry Fish Hatchery, Beauchesne noted.
