Opal J. Gentry, 89 of Milton-Freewater, Ore. died March 22, 2011, at her daughters home in Rainier, Ore. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 28, 2011 at 11 a.m., in the chapel of the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main St, Milton-Freewater, Ore. Concluding services and interment will follow in the Milton-Freewater Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the Walla Walla Community Hospice through the funeral home.
The 2nd to the oldest of seven children, Opal was born July 13, 1921, in Wallowa, Oregon. She was the daughter of James and Angela Seitz Roberts. She attended the Lone Pine Grade School and also Wallowa High School. After her schooling was completed she worked for a time for the Grocery Store in Wallowa.
Opal married Alvin C. Gentry in Walla Walla, Wash. in 1940. The couple moved to Milton-Freewater to make their home. After her husbands death in 1958, she moved to Gresham, Ore. where she worked for Nabisco and then later for Gresham Hospital for several years until her retirement. She then moved back to Milton-Freewater. Opal enjoyed making candy for her family on the holidays and was known as having a green thumb.
She is survived by her two daughters, Neta Halladay of Rainier, Ore., Delores Brown of Ridgefield, Ore., sister, Mary Lewis of Milton-Freewater, brother, David Roberts of Milton-Freewater and her five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, son, Ralph Gentry, three brothers, Jesse, Elvin and Raymond Roberts and a sister Pearl Dilling.
