COLLEGE PLACE -- Three members of the city Police Department were recognized Monday for their work to make the city streets safer.
At the City Council meeting, Chief Dennis Lepiane presented the officers with the department's 2011 awards for traffic safety and employee of the year.
Officer George Bennett was presented with this year's Employee of Year award. "He just automatically shows up when he's needed," Lepiane told council members about Bennett's willingness to serve.
Officer Harry Flemmer was presented with the department's Traffic Safety Award for having the most arrests of people driving on suspended or revoked licenses during the past year. Lepiane noted that the traffic stops, 41 in all, often led to the discovery of other crimes.
Officer Allan Thonney was presented with the second Traffic Safety Award for having the most arrests of people suspected of driving under the influence, Lepiane said.
