PRESCOTT - Waitsburg-Prescott plated two first-inning runs and two more in the third to jump out on Weston-McEwen here Monday.

The TigerScots rallied with a four-run fifth inning to tie it up, but W-P put two more runs on the board in the sixth to take the 6-4 nonleague victory.

"I was able to get most of my players in, which is a good thing early in the season," W-M coach T.J. Haguewood said. "I was pleased defensively, it was a cleaner game than we've had in the past. We cut down on errors, which is what we were looking to do.

"Offensively, it was frustrating with some of the swings and the pitch selection we swung at. We had a long break (for spring break), and mentally we were not there."

Drew Greenwalt started on the mound for the TigerScots, but Haguewood pulled him after two W-P batters - giving up a double and recording a strikeout - with a bad arm.

Matt McGill came on in long relief.

"He did a great job," Haguewood said of McGill, who he said had the opportunity to close the game until the two-run W-P sixth.

Calvin Thacker came in to close out the game for the TigerScots.

W-M hosts Horizon Christian, a new member of the Blue Mountain Conference out of Hood River, to start league play with a twin bill at 11 a.m. Saturday.

"I don't know much about them, but I care more about what we do and not what they do," Haguewood said.
