WAITSBURG -- Two Waitsburg residents were awarded Community Service Awards at the Commercial Club annual meeting.

J.R. "Dick" Carpenter and Karen Mohney were recipients of the awards.

Carpenter, nominated by Ivan and B.A. Keve, has helped the Commercial Club with the salmon barbecue, Easter egg hunt and April city cleanup. He has also served on the City Council and council committees.

"Dick is eager to volunteer and serve this community when needed," the Keves said in a nomination letter.

Mohney is an example of being a success in your hometown, Bettie Chase wrote in her letter. Mohney has "quietly been involved in numerous activities and organizations through the ears here in Waitsburg.

When Mohney's auction business was undermined by the sale of the building "she got out her cookbook" and begin a catering service, Chase said.

Mohney is Mother Advisor for the local Rainbow Girl group.
