RICHLAND - Touchet picked up two nonleague wins over Liberty Christian in a softball doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.
The Indians won the first game, 14-6, and picked up the second, 19-11.
Touchet coach Gary Dorman split the 19 eligible Indians players into two teams for the games, giving all the girls seven innings in the field.
"We just let them play, and it worked out well," Dorman said. "We got to see a lot of different kids in different positions, which is good for us."
The Indians charged to an early 8-4 lead in game one, knocking out 15 hits to the Patriots' four in the win.
Harley Schaeffer opened from the circle for the Indians, but ran in to trouble in the seven-run fourth inning, with the teams snarled at 11 in the bottom of the fourth.
"She battled and battled, but sometimes the pitcher loses the ability to get the ump to call a strike. ... Harley did a great job up to that point, but once in a while the wheels fall off," Dorman said.
Makayla Bishop relieved her and was able to push ahead for the win. Touchet had 20 hits while Liberty Christian chalked up 12.
Playing some of the younger players gives the Indians a chance to build for the future, Dorman said.
"They all want to play, and as we get into the league season we have the best players out all the time," he said. "This gives kids who don't get a lot of playing time the chance to get out there. They had a good time."
The Indians are off for spring break and hit the field again in their league opener April 16, when they travel to Colton. They're 5-2 in nonleague play.
