MOUNT VERNON - Walla Walla Community College's men's golfers turned the tables a little bit at Avalon Golf Course here Sunday, shooting a 299 with a much better back nine than has been the case recently, Warriors coach Mike Rostollan said.
"That's the best score we've shot (here) in at least 10 years," Rostollan said. "This is a tricky course."
And while the men's team stepped up, WWCC's Dona Dunovant continued here steady play with a 82 to lead the field once again.
"Dona played well, she's so consistent," Rostollan said.
On the men's side, Bellevue leads the team score at 293, followed by Spokane 294, WWCC's 299, Olympic 307, Skagit Valley 308 and Green River 311.
Spokane's Andrew Roller carded a 4-under-68 to lead the field, followed by Spokane's Alex Pounds and Bellevue's Alex Morz at 70. Bellevue's Tyler McDougal shot a 1-under 71.
For WWCC, Ash Miles shot an even-par 72 to tie Skagit Valley's Neal Bitow. Also carding counting scores for the Warriors were Cory Spencer and Josh Scothorne, both at 75, and Eric Wright at 77.
Non-counting scores for WWCC were Drew Morgan at 78 and Mike Ervin at 79.
On the women's side, Dunovant's 82 was followed by Spokane's Alexa Bell at 87 and Kelsey Berg at 88.
Warrior Jamie Robison shot a 110.
The Cardinal Classic continued this morning.
