The blaze was called in at about 10:30 p.m., when a passer-by noticed the fire on Owens Road, off Mojonnier Road, said John Boose, city fire marshal.
A single fire engine with eight firefighters responded.
The burn originated in a car, which was seized by police some time ago and parked at the property, he explained. "It was 99 percent consumed, all but the metal frame."
Although his investigation is not complete, the origin of the fire is "suspicious," Boose said. Training equipment owned by CPPD was lost in the fire; estimated damage costs are likely to be less than $5,000.
